About Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

At Sakura Clinic, we place a strong emphasis on preventive pediatric dentistry.
To help children develop and maintain healthy teeth, we offer regular check-ups and professional brushing guidance to prevent cavities.
Once your child’s teeth begin to emerge, we also monitor for bite alignment issues and provide early orthodontic evaluations.

By offering orthodontic treatment tailored to your child’s growth, we aim to prevent future misalignment and support long-term oral health.
Our pediatric orthodontic care is not only focused on straightening teeth, but also on achieving proper bite function.

We are committed to helping your child grow with healthy teeth and a confident smile.
At Sakura Clinic, we support your child’s development by combining preventive dental care with personalized orthodontic treatment—laying the foundation for a bright and healthy future.

What Causes Cavities to Start?

Did you know that babies are not born with cavity-causing bacteria in their mouths?
However, the risk of infection begins to rise around 4 months of age, and the period between 19 and 31 months is considered the most vulnerable to bacterial transmission and colonization. This critical phase is known as the “window of infection”, and it is when special attention is needed to prevent cavities.

By minimizing the risk of infection during this window, it becomes significantly easier to maintain a cavity-free mouth after age 3.
Achieving “zero cavities by age 3” helps lay the foundation for lifelong oral health and reduces the risk of dental problems later in life.

At Sakura Clinic, we focus on pediatric preventive dentistry from an early age to help protect your child’s smile for the future.

Why Baby Teeth Are More Prone to Cavities

Why Are Baby Teeth More Prone to Cavities?
There are several reasons why baby teeth are more vulnerable to tooth decay. These reasons are closely related to the unique characteristics of baby teeth:

  • The enamel layer is thinner than that of permanent (adult) teeth, making it easier for cavities to progress.
  • Food easily gets stuck between teeth, especially in the spaces between baby teeth (called interproximal areas).
  • Newly erupted teeth are immature, making them especially susceptible to decay.
  • The grooves on baby molars are deep, which makes them harder to clean thoroughly with a toothbrush.

Cavity Prevention Measures for Children

Unlike permanent teeth, baby teeth are more susceptible to cavities and therefore require more careful preventive care.
The goal of pediatric dentistry is to help your child’s baby teeth develop into healthy permanent teeth.

Fluoride Application

Fluoride helps reinforce the structure of the teeth and suppress the activity of cavity-causing bacteria.
By applying fluoride regularly to the surface of the teeth, we can help develop teeth that are more resistant to decay.

Dental Sealant Treatment

Children’s teeth have complex and narrow grooves, especially on the molars, making it difficult to remove plaque completely even with regular brushing.
To prevent cavity-causing bacteria from entering these grooves, we apply a plastic resin material called a sealant to cover and protect them.
This procedure helps reduce the risk of tooth decay and supports long-term oral health.

Brushing Instruction and Plaque Disclosure

To help children take an interest in brushing and grow up with healthy, cavity-free teeth, we offer personalized brushing instruction upon request.
We warmly encourage parents to join and participate in the session as well.

Final Brushing by Parents

While it’s important for children to develop good brushing habits, final brushing by a parent is just as essential.

Future-Focused Bite Alignment for Children

We offer “Invisalign® First,” a clear aligner treatment designed for children, with their future oral health in mind.

Invisalign® First

At our clinic, we offer clear aligner treatment for children around the ages of 6 to 12 to help achieve properly aligned teeth.

Children are required to wear the aligners for a certain number of hours each day. While their own motivation is important, the aligners are removable and easy to clean, making the treatment less burdensome and more manageable for daily use.

Please feel free to consult us for more details.

*Note: Depending on the case, other orthodontic appliances may be used.
*The treatment period may vary depending on the child’s dental condition.
